HMANA promotes the use of a standard data collection protocol for raptor migration monitoring. HMANA’s count protocol has been adjusted over time and a data collection form and a brief set of instructions have been made widely available to monitoring sites across North, Central and South America.
The purpose of this document is to describe a standard data collection protocol for raptor migration counts. This protocol can be easily customized for the particularities of a specific site.
Hawk watch count data may be entered online at HawkCount, HMANA’s hawk watch count database. Hourly and daily count totals can be entered online via the web site or submitted as .xls spreadsheets.
If your watch-site is already active at HawkCount, consult your watch-site or project leader for access.

HMANA Count Reviewers – Fall 2016
The HMANA Data Committee and Board have finalized reviewers of HawkCount for Fall 2016. These reviewers will scrutinize data entry in an effort to reduce errors and encourage documentation of rare species observations. Prior to the shift to digital data entry, HawkCount paper forms were previously reviewed for accuracy.
